Maryvale Core Urban Design

The extension will provide opportunities for residents and families to gain access to a wider variety of jobs, education and resources. The urban design for a pedestrian centered, dense urban core serves as a regional destination as well as local urban center by repurposing an ailing shopping mall and introducing an open air Mercado, central Plaza, new walkable street types and a range of housing and commercial building typologies.

Kevin Kellogg and the ASU Stardust Center led the urban design and community engagement process for a square mile area around 3 proposed stations on the west extension of the Metro Light Rail line.

Bi-lingual community meetings with interactive exercises designed to engage and yield measurable input helped guide the development of a rigorous set of project metrics and an on-going monitoring plan.
